Insightful, smart, creative and in love with the forest – that’s how we would describe Andrea Lysvold, a professional hunter from Norway and our very own Pulsar ambassador. We wanted to find out what are some of Andrea’s favorite hunting routines and activities, so we asked her some questions and got some very interesting answers. Read ahead if you want to find out more of what she told us.
It’s a little hard for me to nail down just one favorite thing about hunting because hunting is so much more than that. The actual hunt is a bonus experience – it’s more about the tracking, the excitement, the adrenaline and the success. But because of the fact that I love hunting, even on hunts where I’m not successful, I would have to say that my favorite thing about hunting is the feeling of freedom. I love the silence, the wilderness and the break from normal day-to-day life.
Hunting also changed my life for the better. Before I started hunting, my health was not very good, so this new activity was a life changer for me. Nature is not only something I love but something I need. Being in the great outdoors is the best medicine you can get. Of course, it’s also all the great meat I get to bring home and the fact that it comes from an animal living in freedom.
Type of hunt: Stalking is my absolute favorite type of hunting. The harder it is to stalk the prey, the better the hunt is for me. It feels great to succeed after a good stalk because you know you have worked really hard and did everything right to get the animal you hunt.
I really love hunting in the mountains and in the ocean, however, there is something magical about the forest. It might be because we don’t have any forests nearby where I live, so it’s kind of exotic for me. The Swedish forest has captured my heart this last year, with all the wildlife in it.
Time of the year: Autumn, no doubt. It’s too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Autumn is perfect, and that’s the time of year when everyone is hunting.
Animal to hunt: One of my favorite animals to hunt is the wild boar. It’s such a cool animal to hunt. I especially like stalking them at night. I’m really afraid of the dark, and the wild boars appear and disappear as if they were ghosts, but the excitement and the rush of it all make the somewhat scary hunt of a wild boar my favorite.
Game to eat: Wild boar is my favorite game to eat. It’s so tasty and fits many recipes.
Gear to use: I prefer rifle-hunting, probably because that’s what I’ve been trained to do best. Thermal optics are always fun to use and helpful, so I always bring my thermal optics no matter where I’m going.
Pulsar device: This is a hard one. I really love the Merger, but I think for personal use, from what I have tried, my favorite is The Helion 2 XP50 Pro. It’s not too big, and the image quality is amazing. It also has a comfortable grip, and it’s easy to reach the buttons while using it.
My favorite thing about being a Pulsar ambassador is all the amazing gear I get to test out and everything I learn about the thermals and hunting in general from the Pulsar family members. So many valuable friendships and a lot of important knowledge.
My favorite challenge when hunting is finding new challenges. I learn so much from every new challenge throughout the hunt, so it’s valuable even when it’s quite annoying. What might be the most fun challenge for me is when the game is hard to find or reach, and I manage to work my way around it and succeed.
Media to get news about shooting/hunting: I mostly use Instagram, where I follow all my friends, other hunters and companies that inspire me. I also watch a lot of hunting videos on different channels on YouTube.
