A few weeks before we introduced Thermion 2 LRF XL60 to the world, we took it to Sweden for testing and content creation.
Joining us was none other than Stefan Orman – a longtime ambassador of Pulsar, an incredibly experienced hunter, and a skilled shooting instructor. Today, we’re excited to share some behind-the-scenes highlights from our trip.
During our six-day stay in Sweden, we accomplished a lot. We filmed two promotional videos for Thermion 2 LRF XL60, created a zeroing tutorial, and took hundreds of photos.
Once the cameras were set aside, we also had the opportunity to go on a wild boar hunt and spend quality time getting to know each other better. The trip helped solidify the bond between Stefan and our team.
When creating promotional videos, we aim to feature real hunters. While hiring actors might be easier, we believe in authenticity and prefer working with those who genuinely understand the craft. Filming with hunters like Stefan allows us to gain hands-on knowledge and insights about our products’ performance. Stefan agrees:
“We, hunters, have the user’s perspective, and we can more easily identify what kind of hunts and hunters a product is best suited for. Personally, I lose interest in a promotional ad if I see that the ‘hero’ has no clue about what they’re doing. I can tell instantly just by how they hold or carry their rifle if they have professional gun-handling knowledge. It’s irresponsible to showcase improper gun handling.”
Every time we visit a hunter, we gain valuable knowledge. The time spent with Stefan in Sweden was no exception. From learning about local hunting traditions to seeing how the new Thermion 2 LRF XL60 could serve pest controllers, the experience was educational. Stefan also shared his perspective.
“The first thing I learned – and this is not new, this is something that runs through the soul of Pulsar – they listen to what hunters and shooters need, focusing on the features that are most important to us.
Secondly, I loved seeing how you scout locations, set up scenes, lights, sound, cameras, and all the behind-the-scenes work we as consumers never see. It’s incredibly interesting, and I’ll try to replicate some of those methods when creating my own content.
Overall, it’s an absolute honor every time I get to work with this team. Being chosen for this particular project was humbling, and the generosity and care shown by this team never fail to impress.”
We had been eager to collaborate with Stefan for a long time. When the R&D department introduced us to Thermion 2 LRF XL60, we knew it was the perfect product to showcase his expertise. Because of his experience, we decided to create multiple formats rather than just one video.
Of course, this meant an intense filming schedule, but working with Stefan made it a smooth and enjoyable process. His professionalism, dedication, and passion for hunting shone through every moment. As Stefan recalls:
“What I found most interesting was how many different takes from different angles go into a single scene. The whole process was really fun. I’m honestly uncomfortable being on camera, but I’m also incredibly honored to have had the opportunity to work with this team multiple times.
What I enjoy most is the family feeling and the incredible, joy-filled energy we share. It makes me forget that this will probably be watched by millions. Plus, it’s all part of the magic of creating useful and beautiful content that helps end-users understand the product and decide if it’s the right tool for their needs.”
As much planning as we put into shoots, some unexpected things still happen inevitably. And often, these deviations from the plan become memories that last a lifetime. In this case, there is one particular event that we’re unlikely to forget. But since it’s quite embarrassing for our team, we’ll leave it for Stefan to share.
“If I had to pick one thing I enjoyed the most, it would be spending time with friends – that’s how it feels working with this team. One memory that makes me smile is from when we were filming me stalking up to a stone in an open field.
As we were shooting, some curious young bull calves wandered over to check us out. The crew, unfamiliar with cows, especially young bulls, became quite nervous. I tried to reassure them and walked over to scare the calves away.
Just as I turned around, I saw the whole team, gear and all, running for their lives. To make things even funnier, my friend Fredrik, who had lent us his grounds for filming, was watching from his car. He calmly walked through the scene, straight to the calves, and said, ‘Come here, little buddies.’ He then cuddled them and led them away. By this point, the crew was on the ground, laughing uncontrollably.”
With the little bulls being the stars of the bloopers and Stefan – the main character of the official videos, there was also a sidekick of dreams – the Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XL60 thermal imaging riflescope. While you can read more about it here, the most important thing you need to know is that it comes with greatly updated optics – both thermal and eyepiece.
The 60 mm thermal lens allows for higher base magnification and a more detailed image. The new eyepiece optics provide the highest-in-class eye relief, while the wider screen makes it much more comfortable to confidently observe your surroundings. Curious about Stefan’s take?
“IT’S AWESOME! The large eye relief prevents the dreaded ‘club of the crescent moon,’ which is especially important for someone like me who enjoys using big boom sticks like 300wm, 7 RM, and more.

Secondly, the 60 mm lens, wide FOV, and LONG detection range of 2800 m. Until I get a clip-on with the same capabilities, this device might be my new favorite.
All in all, it’s honestly incredible. I’ve had it out in every weather you can think of, and the image is incredible – nothing I’ve had beats it. This is for now the ultimate tool for a professional.”
