When we first launched the Pulsar Krypton 2 thermal imaging front attachment – a compact and reliable way to transform your daytime optics into a thermal imaging riflescope – many hunters noticed that it had an external battery. This choice wasn’t accidental – external batteries have multiple advantages over internal ones, so let’s cover some of them.
When designing our devices, we aim for them to have as good a performance as possible. This covers a lot of things, and battery is not an exception. Firstly, of course, we try to achieve the highest possible energy efficiency.
In Krypton 2, that has turned out to be up to 11 hours of continuous operation on a single battery charge. But it doesn’t have to be the limit.
Here, we come to the most obvious – and perhaps the most important – advantage of an external battery: you can easily swap it out in the field. With an internal one, you’d have to take the whole device to the charging station. With Krypton 2, having an additional battery that you’ve previously charged at home is enough.
This is especially valuable in winter – cold temperatures drain the battery more quickly, and can therefore shorten the use of the device. But you could easily have a spare battery in an internal pocket of your jacket, warm and and protected from cold, and swap the flat one in seconds. Thus, a simple quick-release battery design is a major highlight when the battery runs flat in most unexpected situations.
Not to mention the all-round performance of Krypton 2. Being a time-proven player on the market, approved by hunters and ever-changing weather conditions, this European-made device is high caliber resistant and distinct for point of impact stability.
Also, the well-balanced, compact and light-weight design of Krypton 2 assures even weight distribution on the riflescope. When mounted in front of the lens of daytime optics, the front attachment creates minimal impact on balance.
Longevity might be a buzzword these days, but you can’t deny its importance – and not just when it comes to human life. We are strong believers in making quality devices that last for years to come, thus minimizing electronic waste and protecting your bank account.
And external batteries are important for this, too. As you probably already know, each battery has its life cycle – the number of times it can be charged and discharged fully. However, with time, not only the number of remaining cycles reduce, but their length, too – meaning that in a year’s time, your device won’t last as long as it used to when you just bought it.
You’ve probably noticed this effect on your phone, laptop, or any other battery-powered device. It’s perfectly normal, and we’re yet to figure out a way to prevent this. But until we do, we choose to have external batteries because once their life cycle is over, you can just get a new one – instead of replacing the whole device.
Plus, should anything happen to the battery, servicing it will be easier, too. Instead of having to send the whole device (and potentially spend the rest of the hunting season without one), you will be able to send just the battery and continue using your device with a spare one.
Finally, there is one more important thing to share – the quality of the battery. We produce all our batteries by ourselves, and we do it in Europe, ensuring the highest possible quality and efficiency.
Producing our own batteries allows us to achieve higher capacity and safety, as well as ensure that it will work perfectly in any conditions – high humidity including. Krypton 2 has an IPX7 waterproofness rating, which ensures it’s fully resistant to rain, snow, and even a temporary submersion into water. And while you should not submerse the battery on its own, we can guarantee you that it’s created to function in all weather conditions.
So, why don’t you join hundreds of happy hunters in Germany and beyond and begin harnessing the advantages of thermal vision and Krypton 2?
Before purchasing any night or thermal vision device, please make sure you adhere to the local legislation and only use it when it is allowed. Our ambassadors come from various countries and travel a lot, which allows them to test different devices. We do not encourage or support the illegal use of our devices in any events.
