People living in the cities can only start their mornings with a cup of coffee, but for Boris Belchev, an ornithologist residing in Lithuania, nature is his energy source. Boris’s gaze usually goes to the sky and trees where he spots birds, but recently, he set his sights on lynxes. How did it go?
Boris, aside from birdwatching, is also a nature guide – people who want to get closer to wildlife, visit him from all over the world. Once, guests from Malta asked to show them lynxes. “So, I put together a route that ended up with us seeing these animals – luckily, I had my gear ready and could capture them immediately. We watched them for half an hour,” says Boris. Indeed, seeing a lynx in Lithuania is a difficult task, so the group was fortunate at that time. “According to the data, there are only about 90–100 lynxes in Lithuania, and they are all different – the biggest ones can weigh as much as 30 kg,” he adds.
The lynx is a member of the cat family with perfect eyesight and hearing, so for it to appear, it needs to be lured with food or special pheromones. But such a meeting is usually a matter of luck, which is difficult to predict in advance. Besides, it is impossible to find a lynx at night without thermal imagers; thus, the meeting is based not only on luck but also on proper gear.
There are more animals that are usually hiding from human sight. Seeing badgers, bison, and fallow deer is still quite tricky. “We once did a night hike through the Kintai forest and only used Pulsar thermal imaging devices. When we stopped to look around, we saw fallow deer, roe deer, a brown hare, and a pine marten,” – shares Boris.
In such situations, offering remote real-time image viewing for guests via Stream Vision 2 during group tours becomes essential. This feature allows Boris to display live images from his thermal device, like Merger LRF XL50, on a smartphone screen, enabling him to capture footage and photos and share the wonders of nature without disturbing its natural course.
Birdwatching and nature photography are Boris’ passions, so he needs proper gear to explore under various conditions. Currently, in Norway, he can even spot whales when they blow warm air. “It was interesting to test it in such an environment, as these binoculars allow you to detect an animal even 2.8 km away,” notes Boris.
The Merger LRF XL50 is beneficial not only for hunting but also for bird and animal watching, making it a handy tool for any nature-related passion. Boris recently tested the Merger LRF XL50 binoculars — he captured many lynx images. What he liked most was the device’s unsurpassed HD resolution and the fact that the binos have two batteries for a more extended operating period. As a result, Boris can use this device all night and continuously record the lives of animals.
He also emphasized the importance of spotting birds and animals from a distance for his work and highlighted that the device performs well in this aspect. In addition, Boris likes that this particular model looks like classic binoculars.
Overall, the Merger LRF XL50 offers ergonomic and reliable performance that is useful for hunting, bird watching, and wildlife photography — letting nature unfold right in front of your eyes.
